What to include
Three things let us start on your problem without writing back first:
- your store’s domain, such as your-store.myshopify.com;
- the sync id, shown against the sync in Sync history;
- what you expected to happen, and what happened instead.
Please do not send passwords, API keys or your customers’ personal details.
Urgent problems
If Cortex is writing wrong data, or syncing has stopped for your whole store, email contact@huntthenight.com.au with URGENT in the subject line.
You can stop Cortex writing yourself at any time, by turning the sync off in its settings.
Security reports
If you have found a security problem in Cortex, report it to contact@huntthenight.com.au. We acknowledge every report within five business days.
Getting started
Cortex walks you through five steps in order and remembers where you stopped. Nothing is written to either system until you turn a sync on.
- Connect Retail Express. Sign in with Shopify, then pair your Retail Express account.
- Map your products. Wire your fields on the canvas and confirm product types and vendors.
- Turn on product sync. Products that exist on both sides wait for your review before they are linked.
- Map order details. Match locations, payments, freight and return reasons.
- Turn on order sync. Orders placed from that moment on are created in Retail Express.
Worth knowing before you start
- Your Shopify store currency must match your Retail Express base currency.
- Cortex takes the place of Retail Express’s own Shopify integration. The two can’t run on the same store.
- Orders placed before you turn order sync on are not brought across.
- Shipment tracking numbers are not carried between the systems.
Common questions
Why is a sync waiting?
Either it needs a mapping you have not made yet, in which case it syncs by itself once you make it, or it needs a person: a conflict to settle, a refund over your limit to approve, or two existing products to review before they are linked. Sync history can be filtered to what needs attention.
A sync failed. What now?
Open it in Sync history to see why, then retry it. A retry re-reads the current data rather than replaying the old change. You can also retry every failed sync since a date.
Where do I sign in?
Open Cortex from the Apps list in your Shopify admin. Cortex signs you in with your Shopify account, so there is no separate password.
How do I give a colleague access?
The Shopify account owner holds every kind of access. Everyone else is granted theirs under Settings > People.
How is Cortex priced?
By the Shopify orders it creates in Retail Express each month. The plans are on the Pricing page.
Uninstalling
Uninstall Cortex from the Apps page of your Shopify admin, as you would any app.
- Syncing stops. Your Shopify access token, every browser session and your Retail Express credentials are deleted immediately.
- Your mappings, record links and history are kept in case you reinstall.
- 48 hours after the uninstall, Shopify asks Cortex to erase the shop, and everything Cortex holds for your store is erased.
- Records already in Shopify and Retail Express are yours and are not touched.
